For the purpose of sharing with its principal suppliers the strategies, objectives and vision for the next decade and getting them actively involved, The Coca-Cola Company presented its plan “Business Vision 2020” during the Global Supplier Sustainability Summit that took place at the end of last year in Atlanta, Georgia.
Muhtar Kent, President and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company, expressed to the participating companies his pleasure in working together to find effective and innovative solutions to become leaders in the area of sustainability.
He asked the suppliers that in addition to assuring that attention be given to communities, the environment and employees that they also align their operating and production strategies so that their plants would be more sustainable in their processes.
“It was an extraordinary event and, for us, an excellent opportunity to present our efforts to promote sustainable development”, comments Alfonso Gomez Palacio, President of Vitro Glass Containers.
He adds that among the principal initiatives highlighted in the Vitro presentation were: our glass recycling program, the most important in the glass industry in Mexico, the reduction in energy consumption per ton of melted glass, the development of lighter glass containers and our use of organic paints for decorating containers in a move to diminish the use of heavy metals.
“At Vitro we are convinced that, even in challenging times such as the world is now experiencing, sustainable development is not only an opportunity but rather a necessity”, concludes Gomez Palacio.
